To energize your exercise you first need to think outside the exercise box. Think of exercise as recreation. Stop laughing, I’m serious here.
Recreation achieves a positive experience, discovers personal identity, releases stress, and ignores judgment. That is what exercise should do as well.
Here is an important factor to make your exercise energized; think like a kid. For most kids the meaning of life is recreation. They play, they use their imagination, they don’t judge or worry…kids have it figured out. Their exercise IS playing …physically that is. They want to burn energy, they want to go outside; they experience freedom.
You too have that kind of imagination, it’s an awesome gift. You just need to be abe to unleash the kid in you. |

Energize my Exercise!
To really get your blood pumping and mind buzzing do exercise the old fashion way....get OUTSIDE! Being outside in fresh air is recreation for your body and leisure for your mind. If you feel safe going out in your neighborhood get out there. If you don't feel safe, go somewhere that is safe.
Being able to pump yourself up and to be creative with your exercise is so important for enjoyment. So how do you do that? Here are some suggestions to help you become your own exercise coach:
---First step Like I said in the left column: Think like a kid. That is the mindset you need to make exercise fun. Put your imagination in play. Your goal is to transform your exercise routine into a recreational event not a daunting chore.
---Second step Ask yourself, what do I like to do and why do I like it?
---Third step Do what you like to do for at least 20 minutes a day, to start. Gradually, work up to one hour per workout 3-5 times a week. I would suggest increasing your time by 5 or 10 minutes every three weeks. So yes, this is going to take some time. It is a process.
---Fourth step Make sure you have appropriate and safe gear. This includes a good pair of footwear and a helmet if needed. Not to mention hydration.
---Fifth step. Set a goal and don’t stop until you achieve it. Then set another goal, etc. Goals work.
---Sixth step Pray about it. That’s right, pray to the One and only. He can definitely and guarantee-ably help you better than anyone else can. If you need help with a prayer please see my example of a prayer in my personal example below.
---Seventh step Self-discipline. Make yourself do it. Get to that point during your exercise that you get a natural high. It’s awesome and it’s all natural. Make time in your day to exercise.
O.k. I think we just completed a mile with all the above steps! But you can do this, and it's so rewarding. |

My personal example of the suggested tips:
- Exercise is fun, it’s challenging, and I get to play outside!
- I like walking because it’s a gradual workout, it can be done anywhere. I like to meditate during my walk and also think through some thoughts. Plus I can get outside…preferably a hiking trail in the woods.
- 20 minutes to start
- I got some walking shoes from my local sporting goods dealer.
- Example of a goal: I have to make it to that funny looking tree before I can turn around. OR I have to continue walking until I get through 5 songs on my headphones a.k.a. ipod.
- Dear God, thank you for this awesome day. Thank you for all the daily necessities you have given me. Please help me find some time to go for a walk today. I ask for strength, motivation, and endurance. Please fill me with the Holy Spirit so that I can be a positive example and a light to others. I ask all this in your Son's name, Amen.
- I will get up every morning at 6 am and either walk on the treadmill or walk outside for 30 minutes.
